Iaido Instructor - John Sutton
Sensei Sutton began his martial arts study in 1973, in the arts of Shito Ryu Karate and Hakko Ryu Ju Jitsu under the guidance of Hanshi Lemuel Stroud. In 1986, Mr. Sutton began training in Okinawan Kempo Karate under Robert Arviso and obtained the rank of Shodan (lst degree black belt) in that art. Perhaps his greatest love, though, are the arts of Iaido and Kyudo (Japanese Sword and Archery). While attending seminary in Columbia, SC (1990-1995) he began his study of Iaido under Sensei Parnell. He continues to train in this art, as well as the art of Kyudo, under the guidance of Hanshi Donn Schucker.
Mr. Sutton has studied several other martial arts over the years, including Di Nippon Ju Jitsu.
Assistant Instructor - Johnathon Stokes
Johnathon was born and raised in Lebanon, MO. He graduated from Lebanon Senior High School in May 2005. He began his martial arts training at the age of 6 years old. He is an accomplished martial artist and continues to participate in martial arts competition. As a student of Roger Moore, he diligently progressed through the ranks of Tae Kwon Do and currently holds a 2nd Dan in that system. He is an athletic sparring partner and rapidly progressing grappler.
Mr. Stokes performs a variety of functions at the Academy.
Assistant Instructor - Christian Sutton
Christian Sutton is a student at Lebanon High School where his interests include piano, weight lifting, and wrestling. He has been training continuously in martial arts since the age of seven. He currently holds the rank of 1st Dan in Tae Kwon Do, 1st Dan in World Martial Arts, 1st Dan in Bujutsu, and a 2nd Dan in Ryu Kyu Kobujutsu. He is an active competitor, consistantly placing in the top three in Jr. Black Belt Divisions. He is also an awesome grappler and two time Overall Regional Year-End Champion.
Mr. Sutton works the front desk as well as assisting with Karate and Bujutsu, Grappling, and Weapons classes. He is also available for piano lessons.
Assistant Instructor - Maranda Sutton
Maranda Sutton is a student at Lebanon High School where she is actively involved in choir, band, and drama. She has been training continuously in martial arts since the age of six. She currently holds the rank of 1st Dan in World Martial Arts. She is an active competitor in Jr. Black Belt Divisions.
Miss Sutton works the front desk as well as assisting with our Warriors and Ninjas programs.
Demo Team Leader - Ellen Herrmann
Ellen Herrmann began her martial arts training at the age of 10 and has been training consistantly for over 10 years. She currently holds the ranks of 3rd Dan in World Martial Arts, 2nd Dan in Tae Kwon Do, and 1st Dan in Ryu Kyu KobuJutsu. She is an active competitor in Black Belt Divisions. Ellen currently attends Missouri State University on scholarship where she is pursuing a degree in International Studies with an emphasis in the Chinese culture and a minor in Music.
Miss Herrmann develops and oversees our demo team and its varied performances.
Martial Arts Apprentice - Michael Culp
Without a doubt, one of the most dedicated students at the academy, Michael is working as an apprentice directly under Sensei Sutton. He is striving to learn the business principles involved in running a successful martial arts school while continuing to raise the level of his training far above the standard requirements. Michael excels as a student of Karate and BuJutsu and is a phenomenal grappler. He currently holds the MASK Regional Year End Grappling Championship Title.
Mr. Culp performs a variety of functions within the Academy.
