    Angela D. Sutton

As a proud military wife, Angela Sutton has enjoyed studying martial arts both in the United States and abroad. Her husband, Chaplain John R. Sutton, U.S. Army, holds the rank of Shodan in Okinawan Kempo, while each of their three minor children pursue their martial arts education as well. Her oldest son has followed in her footsteps with a 2nd Dan in Ryu Kyu Kobu-Jutsu, a 1st Dan in Tae Kwon Do, and a 1st Dan in World Martial Arts. Her daughter also holds a 1st Dan in World Martial Arts. Mrs. Sutton holds a Bachelor's degree from East Carolina University in Music Performance and has studied Biblical Counseling at the graduate level. She has further received numerous volunteer awards for her involvement in military and religious communities.

Her martial arts education began in 1988 with Renshi Ed McGovern in Shorin Ryu Karate and Kobu-Jutsu. McGovern immediately encouraged her to expand her training by attending classes with Hanshi Sam Pearson of the same system. The curriculum encompassed various Okinawan kata, as well as the Toyei Ju-Jutsu of O'Sensei Shimabukuro Eizo. Weapons learned at the time included the Bo, Jo, Tonfa, Sai, Nunchauku, and Kama. Upon moving to South Carolina that same year, Mrs. Sutton began training in Di Nippon Ju-Jitsu under the tutelage of Hanshi Bill Sanford. From 1992-2000 she provided martial arts instruction at various locations and continued to grow through self instruction. Late in the year 2000, Mrs. Sutton moved to Bamberg, Germany where she began training in International Tae Kwon Do under Kwan Jang Nim Charlemagne Tertulien and Sah Bum Nim Kasey Tertulien. It was during her time in Europe that she decided to expand her weapons curriculum to include the kata and techniques of the Matayoshi Kobudo system. At that time she added additional kata for the aforementioned weapons as well as the Eku Bo and Tanbo/Nitanbo. In the latter part of 2003, Mrs. Sutton returned to the United States continuing her training in Tae Kwon Do with Kwan Jang Nim Carl Wright of South Carolina. Whenever asked, she gladly helped out with colored belt classes and children's programs. Upon moving to Missouri in early 2004, Mrs. Sutton again continued to train in Tae Kwon Do and began training in World Martial Arts under Kwan Jang Nim Tommy Barker and Boo Kwan Jang Nim Nancy Stokes. Mrs. Sutton currently holds the rank of 3rd Dan in World Martial Arts. It was here that she established her own curriculum of Ryu Kyu Kobu-Jutsu. In the summer of 2004, Mrs. Sutton performed before the International Board of Masters of the United States Martial Arts Association and was awarded a 3rd Dan in Kobu-Jutsu, one of her proudest achievements. She continues to grow as a martial artist and has continued to expand her weapons knowledge to include Tinbe and Rochin, Yari, Kuwa, Nunte Bo and Filipino Escrima.

Mrs. Sutton is currently a 4th Dan in Kobu-Jutsu. She trains in Shorin-Ryu Shorinkan under Kyoshi Eddie Bethea. She is the Owner and Chief Instructor of the Academy.
